Understanding Pancreatic Cancer: A Philanthropic Mission of Awareness and Hope

Pancreatic cancer begins when abnormal cells in the pancreas grow uncontrollably, forming a tumor that can interfere with the organ’s essential functions. The pancreas is a vital organ located deep in the abdomen, nestled behind the stomach. It plays a key role in digestion and in regulating blood sugar by producing important hormones like insulin.

Shaped somewhat like a fish, the pancreas is approximately six inches long and less than two inches wide. It is divided into three main parts:

  • The head lies on the right side of the abdomen, near where the stomach connects to the small intestine.

  • The body extends across the middle of the abdomen, positioned behind the stomach.

  • The tail reaches toward the left side, close to the spleen.

Our mission is to shine a light on this often-overlooked disease by increasing awareness, educating the public, supporting families affected by pancreatic cancer, and funding critical research aimed at early detection, improved treatments, and ultimately, a cure.

Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the fight against pancreatic cancer. For more information on pancreatic cancer, resources, and ways to help, visit pancan.org.

FGCU's Hurricane Response Team

In order to better prepare and rebuild our community, Florida Gulf Coast University's Office of Service-Learning has started an initiative fueled by organizations small and large, Greek-lettered or not. This project has created an inter-connected hub for communication and logistics regarding volunteering opportunities, allowing those able to respond quickly and effectively to the rest of the community's needs. Such response efforts may include:

  • Distributing food, water, and other essential supplies before and after a storm,

  • Clearing roadways and other public areas of debris or dangerous materials, and

  • Assisting with the rebuilding of structures.

Our priority is to carry out our mission statement and truly use our Fraternity as a catalyst to better serve the needs and wants of all people. For more information on resources and ways to help, visit fpnetwork.org.
